JOHOR BARU: The newly-minted Johor education and information committee chairman aims to make Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (YPJ) the top two choices for school graduates to pursue further studies in the future.

Tanjung Surat assemblyman Aznan Tamin, who was sworn in as a state executive council member on Tuesday (Feb 13) following a reshuffle of the state line-up, said he wants to quickly get up to speed by engaging with the relevant government agencies related to his portfolios.

“It has only been three days since my appointment, and I have been meeting with the departments and agencies related to my portfolios, especially education, as it is a big focus for the state.

“Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has emphasised the quality of education as part of the state government’s Maju Johor 2030 agenda,” he said during his working visit to Kolej YPJ on Thursday (Feb 15).

Aznan said his focus is to improve the quality and facilities of Kolej YPJ, a state-owned higher learning institution that offers 17 types of courses.

“Apart from striving for a university college status by 2025, I hope to elevate the college into the top two choices among secondary school graduates after public universities.

“I will also work closely with the Education Ministry to address the issues faced by schools statewide and provide a comfortable environment for our pupils and students to learn in,” he said.

On Feb 13, Johor Lama assemblyman Norlizah Nor, who held the state education, information and communication portfolios, was dropped from the Johor exco line-up.

Onn Hafiz reportedly said he believes the restructuring and new appointment would bring the state forward.

“I would like to thank His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for giving consent to the new appointment and the portfolio restructuring of the state executive line-up for 2024 to 2027,” he added.
