Tom Brady might be the G.O.A.T., but at tonight’s The Roast of Tom Brady live on Netflix, the 7-time winning Super Bowl champ quickly got rubbed the wrong way.
After being on the receiving end of some vicious verbal jabs from host Kevin Hart, including a few jokes about his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen that made Brady visibly wince, Netflix brought out the roastmaster general himself, Jeffrey Ross. While Ross generally serves as the closer at roasts because, let’s face it, he’s the best roaster alive, and everyone else pales in comparison — for some reason he batted second tonight. And almost immediately things got awkward.
After Ross was wheeled out on stage as the ghost of O.J. Simpson, he took to the dais and immediately started ripping into the recently retired quarterback. Ross told the famous true story of Brady’s first day as a New England Patriot, where the underdog sixth round draft pick walked into the office of Patriots owner Robert Kraft and told him, “I’m the best decision your organization has ever made.” This got a huge round of applause from the crowd, which Ross quickly followed up with a destructive punchline: “Would you like a massage?”
If you don’t get the reference here, it’s because Kraft was charged with a misdemeanor after allegedly paying for sex at a Florida massage parlor back in 2019. (It’s worth noting that the charges were eventually dropped.)
After the joke, Brady took a beat and stared at Ross with menace in his eyes. As Ross blew a kiss in the direction of Kraft, Brady surprised the audience by approaching Ross on the dais and warned a bewildered Ross “Don’t say that shit again.” Ross was taken aback, then quickly said “Okay, okay” as Brady walked back to his seat to compose himself.
No further physical incidents between the two happened, and the two hugged it out at the conclusion of Ross’ roasting.
