Bursa finishes lower, tracking regional peers

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia tracked the negative sentiment aligning with the subdued performance of regional markets.

The FBM KLCI closed down 1.51 points, or 0.1% to 1,547.60 after moving between 1,553.90 and 1,544.47.

Stocks that fell outnumbered those that rose 633 to 443, with another 439 counters unchanged. Turnover stood at 3.74 billion shares valued at RM3.12bil.

Dealers said investors exhibited caution today with buying interest interspersed with profit-taking.

The top decliner on Bursa Malaysia was Malaysian Pacific Industries, which lost 38 sen to RM28.50. Heineken slid 26 sen to RM22.82, ViTrox fell 25 sen to RM7.32 and Kuala Lumpur Kepong eased 24 sen to RM22.24.

The top gainer on Bursa Malaysia was Ge-Shen Corp. The counter hit a limit high, rising 60 sen, or 30% to RM2.60 with 5.49 million shares traded.

SAM Engineering rose 59 sen to RM4.85, Malaysia Airports adde 41 sen to RM8.44 and Nestle gained 40 sen to RM121.60.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was quoted at 4.7758, up 0.03% against the US dollar.

Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.35%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed down 0.54%, South Korea’s Kospi declined 0.77%, China’s CSI 300 Index lost 1.04% and Singapore’s Straits Times Index declined 0.54%.
