IF you’ve just discovered the Fallout series thanks to the excellent show on Amazon Prime, you might be tempted to play the game.
Looking up the most recent Fallout game you’ll find Fallout 76, and while it has received improvements over the last few years, it’s not the best starting point to the series.
The latest release focuses on the multiplayer aspect of the game and doesn’t have a strong story like the TV show.
Fallout has seen numerous changes as the series has progressed starting with top down pixel art.
It is harder for new fans to see the charm of these older games, so we recommend starting your Fallout gaming journey somewhere in the middle.
The game from the long-running series that is most like the TV show is 2010’s Fallout New Vegas.
In Fallout New Vegas you start your journey above ground in the post-apocalyptic area around Las Vegas.
You play as a courier who has had their package stolen and been left for dead, as you seek to get back the lost goods.
Set in an open world, it is up to you where to travel and what side stories you will find.
The joy in playing Fallout is all in the side content as you will find different factions just like the TV show.
Fallout New Vegas has multiple endings, and the decisions you make will shape how the story unfolds.
The heart of Fallout appears through both the games and the TV show as you will encounter interesting characters and situations.
Even better, Fallout New Vegas is available for free via Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus, or you can purchase it at a deep discount on Steam.
We don’t recommend the PS Plus version as it is streaming only, and the PlayStation version suffers from technical issues.
It plays well on Xbox though, while the output on Steam will depend on your PC.
