Henry Cejudo calls for Mexican standoff vs. Brandon Moreno at UFC 306

Henry Cejudo thinks it’s time to settle the score with Brandon Moreno.

Moreno (21-8-2 MMA, 9-5-2 UFC) lost a split decision to Brandon Royval in the UFC Fight Night 237 main event Saturday at Mexico City Arena. Cejudo, who contemplated retirement after losing to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 298, is now eyeing Moreno.

Moreno called out Cejudo last May for a fight in Mexico, and Cejudo thinks them fighting at UFC 306 at The Sphere in Las Vegas would make perfect sense.

“What fight would be better than ‘Triple C’ vs. Brandon Moreno, the Mexican-American vs. the true Mexican, and they come together, and they do a five-round showdown – at The Sphere, in Las Vegas, for Mexican Independence Day?” Cejudo said on his YouTube channel.

“I like it. I think if there’s any way we should settle it, enough talking, enough cringing, enough antics, and enough all of that. The only way to get it on, Brandon Moreno, is I accept your challenge. Let’s do it: Mexican Independence Day. What you got? You going to sign that contract? Are you a Mexican, or a Mexican’t?”

Cejudo has long wanted to settle things with Moreno after feeling betrayed by “The Assassin Baby.” Cejudo campaigned for Moreno to join Season 24 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” but did not pick him to be on his team.

As a result of the draw, Moreno ended up on the team of Cejudo’s rival Joseph Benavidez. After the show, Moreno continued training with his coach Benavidez, who fought Cejudo after the filming of the show.

“I think the storyline is there. I think the history is there,” Cejudo said. “I think you have two former champions that have lost, and that are now coming together to pull one of the greatest showdowns in UFC history. I’m just waiting for the call.”
