Tokyo, Jan 24 (EFE).- Japan’s bullet train service (shinkansen) was restored Wednesday following a power outage that affected several lines that connect the north and northeast of the country with Tokyo, as announced by operator East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
A cable hanging on a stretch of track in Saitama prefecture, north of the capital, led the shinkansen to come to a halt between two stations on Tuesday.
The train was removed from the rail and the affected lines – Tohoku, which connects the capital with Sendai; Joetsu, which connects the capital with Niigata; and Hokuriku, between Tokyo and Nagano stations – were operating normally again after general interruptions in service and a total of 280 cancellations.
The incident affected some 120,000 people and the platforms of several Tokyo stations were filled with office workers and tourists waiting for the resumption of operations. EFE
