Marvel has officially cut ties with Jonathan Majors after he was found guilty on two misdemeanor counts of reckless assault and harassment in his domestic violence trial.
A source with direct knowledge of the situation told TMZ that the Disney-owned studio decided to fire the actor, who played supervillain Kang the Conqueror in the first two seasons of Loki and in the February 2023 flick Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Majors was initially tapped to reprise his role in at least two more Marvel movies: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is set for a May 2026 release, and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, that will no longer be happening.
The outlet also reports that it’s unclear whether Majors’ character will be recast, or if an entirely new antagonist will be introduced to the billion-dollar franchise.
The news came shortly after Majors, who pleaded not guilty to all four charges brought against him, was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment following a nearly two-week trial in which his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari claimed to the six-person jury that he had become physically violent with her during a March 2023 altercation.
The trial was brought on by the state of New York after Majors had called 911 when he found Jabbari on the floor in their apartment. He was later arrested after police found injuries on the dancer, whom he met in 2021 on the set of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
According to Jabbari, they had gotten into an argument in the backseat of a private car hours earlier when she found a text from another woman on the actor’s phone. She claimed that she took the device and when he tried to take it back from her, he allegedly grabbed her arm and right hand, twisted her arm and hit her in the head, per The Hollywood Reporter. Jabbari also presented incriminating text messages that appear to show Majors admitting to getting physically violent with her during a separate instance, as well as an audio recording of a heated argument in which he demanded that she act more like Coretta Scott King or Michelle Obama.
Marvel isn’t the first to let the Creed III star go in light of his controversies. After he was arrested in March, he was dropped by his by his talent agency, 360 Entertainment, and public relations manager, The Lede Company. He was also fired from his role in The Man in My Basement, an ad campaign for the Texas Rangers MLB team and disinvited from the Met Gala, per Deadline.
Majors currently faces up to 12 months in prison. His sentencing is set to take place on Feb. 6.
