PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a statement saying that digital motor insurance platform Bjak Sdn Bhd is not authorised to offer road tax renewal services.
In an official statement issued via the department’s X (formerly Twitter) account, it says that such services from Bjak have never received approval from either JPJ or the Transportation Ministry at any point in time.
It also states that claims by the digital insurance platform that it has been “audited, verified, and approved” are untrue and could cause confusion to the public.
JPJ adds that it has received complaints over road tax renewals performed via Bjak, with the road tax validity period or expiration date not being updated.
“The department stresses that there is no integration between the JPJ system (MySikap) and the systems used by Bjak,” it says, adding that it has not approved any additional fees charged by the platform to customers.
In a statement, BJAK says it acknowledges the issues raised by JPJ, adding that it’s “actively working with the authority to find a win-win situation that benefits the consumers”.
It says that road tax renewal is an optional and complimentary service for its customers, with the primary service being auto insurance comparison and renewal.
“It’s important to note that BJAK’s free road tax campaign is part of a private initiative aimed at enhancing customer value and is not affiliated with any governmental mandate or regulation,” it says in the statement.
In the statement, JPJ encourages the public to renew road tax via JPJ counters, kiosks, the MyJPJ app, the public JPJ portal, and JPJ partner platforms including Pos Malaysia, MyEG, and Puspakom.
