Maya Rudolph On The Fake ‘Golden Girls’ Remake Poster: “I Just Want To Say For Amy: Whoever Did This, F*** You”

Although the Golden Girls remake is a hoax, the fake news has reached one of its proposed stars.

Maya Rudolph, who appears on the fake film’s promotional poster with fellow female comics Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Lisa Kudrow, stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday night (March 27), per The Daily Beast.

Although she was promoting Loot Season 2, host Seth Meyers found time to bring up how “the internet was abuzz” after the fake poster began “floating around,” to which Rudolph replied, “Which is fascinating.”

“I just want to put that part out there. Like, good to know,” she quipped.

The fake poster leads back to the YODA BBY ABY Facebook page, which specializes in sharing promotional posters for fake films and TV shows for satirical purposes. The individual helming the account revealed to The Daily Beast that they had been sent death threats over the poster, noting that “people seem to get very primal anger over these things.”

After Meyers showed Rudolph and Late Night viewers the poster, Rudolph teased, “I think they gave up,” as she pointed out how only half of the women’s images — particularly Poehler and Kudrow — were altered to appear aged.

“They worked so hard on these two,” she added. “And then Amy, they were like, ‘We got to put wrinkles in her face.’ And then they were like, ‘That’s good.’”

Meyers deemed the botched job “so funny,” claiming that “with an internet prank, you could have given it another day” to perfect it. Nonetheless, he conceded that “multiple people” asked him if the show was real.

“And what I said back to them was like, ‘If it was real, do you think somebody would’ve signed off on this poster?’” he quipped.

Rudolph replied, “I’m gonna say no,” before deadpanning, “And I just want to say, for Amy: whoever did this, fuck you.”

Nonetheless, Meyers revealed that Rudolph has “other ideas,” which she confirmed.

“But I have other ideas!” she shared. “Like fuck you, dude, whoever did it, but great idea.”

Meyers proceeded to unveil PhotoShop images that Rudolph credited herself with creating, prompting her to tease a “new job” prospect of hers: “Photoshopping faces into old sitcoms.”

Among the posters were Happy Days, Four’s Company (a play on Three’s Company), and Full House.

While this poster may not have been as convincing, many others have deceived the public, including one for a Polar Express prequel titled The Christmas Express, which despite a “December 2023” release date printed on it, was never in fact confirmed nor released.

Late Night with Seth Meyers airs on weeknights at 12:35/11:35c on NBC.
