KUALA LUMPUR: Prioritise religious worship and morals during the holy month of Ramadan, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
“This advice is for everyone. Don’t slander during this Ramadan period. Focus on worship because these last 10 days are the most important for Muslims,” she said during a breaking-of-fast ceremony with members of the media today (April 1).
Fadhlina was commenting on her recent Facebook post on Sunday (March 31), where a recent video of her speaking about banning the word “kafir” at home went viral.
She said the video was malicious and taken out of context. Fadhlina said that the video was edited to cause a commotion on issues related to 3Rs (religion, race and royalty) by distorting the true meaning of her speech so that she would be blamed with hate speech and false accusations in addition to threats to her safety.
Meanwhile, she said the ministry will fill the number of teachers again this month to address the issue of teacher shortages.
“We have already filled 20,000 teaching positions, and the process is consistently efficient; each time there is a new intake, we promptly fill them.
“We’ll fill them (teachers) by April. Our planning and projections are on track, and teacher training and recruitments are proceeding smoothly to fill all vacancies,” she said.
