Lok Sabha Election 2024: Nomination Process For Phase 3 of Lok Sabha Polls Begins Today

School Holidays: The Lok Sabha elections will be conducted in seven phases spread over 44 days starting April 19 in the world’s largest election, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi eyeing a third consecutive term in office. According to the Election Commission of India(ECI)’s schedule, the counting of votes will be conducted on June 4, 2024.

Phase 1, starting on April 19, will see voting take place across 21 states and union territories, comprising a total of 102 seats. Schools and colleges usually close during elections to ease the voting process and ensure the safety of students. Government teachers, bankers, and other government employees are assigned to election duty, resulting in the closure of banks, schools, and other government offices. However, in certain states, holidays are only declared for the specific constituencies where elections are scheduled.

In the first phase, votes will be cast for seats in states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, as well as union territories like Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu & Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. During elections, schools and colleges frequently close to function as polling stations. This facilitates a seamless voting process and guarantees the safety of students on election day.
