SPM results announcement too close to start of school holidays, says NUTP

PETALING JAYA: The National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) has appealed to the Education Ministry to bring forward the announcement of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 results, which is scheduled to be out on May 27.

Educators had raised concerns about the results announcement being too close to the start of the school holidays, which begins on May 25.

In a statement released by NUTP on Thursday (May 9), its secretary-general Fouzi Singon appealed to move up the SPM result date to May 23.

“This is because teachers have already made initial plans for the upcoming school holidays starting on May 25,” he said.

Fouzi also said NUTP received numerous complaints from teachers following the Education Ministry’s announcement.

He added that teachers require ample time to prepare for the holiday season after investing much time and effort into their students’ academic growth throughout the year.

“Many teachers will already be in their hometowns or have vacation plans with their families.

“We hope this issue can be resolved to preserve a positive environment.

“The Education Ministry management should carefully consider and understand the situation before coming to a decision,” he said when contacted by The Star.
