Pick of the day: The Traitors

9pm, BBC One

As a fresh batch of 22 strangers gather at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands in the hope of “murdering” their way to £120,000, the question many of us will be asking is this… Having already seen how the show works, will the contestants change tactics this time around? “They come here having seen the first series so are more quick to suspect,” host Claudia Winkleman has revealed. “But they all play a brilliant game.” Bigger and more “epic” missions are promised this series, but these tasks are the least interesting part of the reality game show that thrives on paranoia and its accompanying micro-expressions.

Digging for Britain

8pm, BBC Two

Professor Alice Roberts is now joined by archaeologists exploring central England’s past. A rural Roman site filled with mysteriously placed objects has been unearthed beneath the (presumably decommissioned) runways of RAF Alconbury, while in Winchester, an Anglo-Saxon cemetery has revealed a grave containing a gold pendant.

Inside the Factory

9pm, BBC Two

In an episode of his series that sounds a bit like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Gregg Wallace explores the Jelly Bean Factory in Dublin. This manufacturing plant makes 10 million of the colourful sweets every day.

Mr Bates vs the Post Office

9pm, ITV1

In the penultimate instalment of the drama, a mediation scheme for sub-postmasters to use to apply for compensation is set up, but it’s too late for Martin Griffiths, a desperate father of two who took his own life. James Arbuthnot MP (Alex Jennings) meanwhile accuses the Post Office of sabotaging their scheme.

Truelove

9pm, Channel 4

“You wouldn’t let your dog suffer like that,” says David (Peter Egan), one of five old friends at the funeral of a sixth, who had been ravaged by cancer. “If I get like that, take me out and shoot me,” adds Phil (Lindsay Duncan), a retired senior police officer. At the ensuing wake, the friends make a drunken pact to do just that, with former SAS soldier Ken (Clarke Peters) tasked with doing the mercy killing while Phil will use her policing nous to cover it up. The joke however soon turns real…

The Great Rhino Robbery

9pm, Sky Showcase

In 2011, regional museums and auction houses across Britain were hit with a bizarre crime spree. Despite holding millions of pounds worth of precious artefacts, only one item has been targeted during each robbery: rhino horn. And as the supply of rhino horn begins to run low, live rhinos increasingly become the target. Touted as a miracle cure for everything from hangovers to cancer, the horn has become more valuable than gold, and this documentary meets the poachers and the investigators hunting them.

Raye at the Royal Albert Hall

10.45pm, BBC One

The subject of a recent Louis Theroux interview, the hugely talented and award-winning singer-songwriter can now be seen in performance. Playing new arrangements of songs from her album My 21st Century Blues, Raye is accompanied by the Heritage Orchestra and the Flames Collective Choir.
