Trump goes on holiday tear over investigations, Colorado case

[

Former President Trump recently went on a tirade with a series of posts to his Truth Social account over the past week, hammering away on the legal battles he faces, such as investigations, indictments and his recent ban from the GOP primary ballot in Colorado.

When the Colorado Supreme Court pushed the former president off of the state’s Republican primary ballot under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause last week, Trump raged against the ruling in a series of posts on Truth Social stretching from late Tuesday to early Wednesday. The former president said it was “a sad day in America” and quoted pundits who were not in favor of the ruling.

“WHAT A SHAME FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!” Trump wrote in one post.

The Centennial State’s highest court ruled that Trump engaged in insurrection by inflaming his supporters with false claims of election fraud and directing them to the Capitol. The insurrection clause prohibits a person from holding any U.S. office if they have engaged in insurrection after swearing to “support” the Constitution as “an officer of the United States.”

In another post, the former president asserted that all the cases he faces are “the work of the DOJ & White House.”

“NO SUCH THING HAS EVER HAPPENED IN OUR COUNTRY BEFORE. BANANA REPUBLIC??? ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!!” Trump’s post read

President Biden said Wednesday that while it was up to the court to decide if Trump should be prohibited from the Colorado ballot under the 14th Amendment, it was “self-evident” that Trump supported an insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021.

“Whether the 14th Amendment applies or not, we’ll let the court make that decision,” Biden said. “But he certainly supported an insurrection. There’s no question about it. None. Zero. And he seems to be doubling down on it.”

Following Biden’s words, the former president said on Truth Social Thursday that he is not an insurrectionist.

“I’m not an Insurrectionist,” Trump wrote, noting comments he made to supporters on Jan. 6 in which he encouraged them to march to the Capitol “peacefully and patriotically.”

“Crooked Joe Biden is!!!” Trump continued.

The former president continued his posting spree Sunday, taking aim at special counsel Jack Smith. In one post, he said he is “fully entitled” to total presidential immunity when it comes to the charges he faces in Smith’s case related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. He also doubled down on his claims that Smith is working on Biden’s behalf.

“THEY SPIED ON MY CAMPAIGN, LIED TO CONGRESS, CHEATED ON FISA, RIGGED A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, ALLOWED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, MANY FROM PRISONS & MENTAL INSTITUTIONS, TO INVADE OUR COUNTRY, SCREWED UP IN AFGHANISTAN, & JOE BIDEN’S MISFITS & THUGS, LIKE DERANGED JACK SMITH, ARE COMING AFTER ME, AT LEVELS OF PERSECUTION NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN OUR COUNTRY??? IT’S CALLED ELECTION INTERFERENCE. MERRY CHRISTMAS!” Trump said in another Christmas Eve post

The former president posted a vitriolic Christmas message Monday to Truth Social, in which he appeared to express his wish for people he labeled as “looking to destroy” the U.S. to “rot in Hell.”

“Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNT against ‘TRUMP’ and ‘MAGA,’ Trump wrote.

Trump’s post continued with a laundry list of complaints against Biden administration policies and ideologies, as well as those who support them, “looking to destroy our once great USA” and signed off with, “MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. AGAIN, MERRY CHRISTMAS!”

Trump highlighted criticism of the Colorado ballot decision from fellow GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie Tuesday in a post, as well.

Trump posted a screenshot of quotes from Christie from a RealClearPolitics article, in which Christie said he did not “believe it is good for our country if he is precluded from the ballot by a court.” The Christie quote post also came alongside other Truth Social posts that included criticism of the court ruling.

“I do not believe Donald Trump should be prevented from being president of the United States by any court,” Christie said in the quotes. “He should be prevented from being president by the voters of this country.”
