UAB cornerbacker Mac McWilliams enters transfer portal

The UAB football program is losing one of its most experienced defensive backs and its first multi-year starter to the spring transfer portal window.

UAB senior cornerback and three-year starter Mac McWilliams has entered the transfer portal, a source confirmed to AL.com.

247Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz were the first to report the news.

After redshirting in his first year with the program, McWilliams suffered season-ending injuries the next two years but managed to make 12 starts while collecting 41 tackles (4 for loss), 13 pass breakups and one interception. He completed his first full season in 2023 while accumulating 52 tackles (2 for loss) and eight pass breakups.

McWilliams’ decision to enter the portal leaves UAB with six cornerbacks on its roster and only two — Colby Dempsey and Ricky Lee III — with starting experience.
